This exploration served as inspiration for the creation of two distinct documentation formats: Dying Lights and Neon City. These formats visually capture the essence of Hong Kong, a city where neon was once an integral part of the landscape. Drawing on the city’s vintage typographic elements and aesthetics, I aimed to convey the duality of translating digital elements into print. To achieve this, I designed a long vertical format that mimics scrolling, printed on a matte finish prone to easy scratching, reminiscent of the preservation methods applied to old Hong Kong graphics. I aimed to illuminate the city’s fading neon culture while paying homage to its enduring beauty and character. 7” x 88” inkjet printed on matte card-stock.
